After 85 years under the ownership and control of the Lea family, Darrell Lea went into voluntary administration in 2012 leading to its eventual acquisition and restructure under new ownership. Their new website is meaningful because it is the first step of rebranding this iconic company.
Darrell Lea US needs a new website with better user experience and performance. After defining the scopes, we find that the whole site is more likely to be a static site, which make us decide to use Gatsby JS framework. Gatsby is always easy to build fast, secure and powerful website.
At the same time, Craft CMS allows our client to create new blogs under an user friendly interface. The blog data is passing to the front end via GraphQL, which is saving bandwidth and reducing waterfall requests while fetching.

Front End Development
We receive the website design in PDF format, which is not that easy to play around it. In the same time, the design is only for the desktop version, which means the mobile design is missing.
After confirming with my project manager, I start to convert the design to Adobe XD. The reason why I choose XD is it allows our clients to know how the site will be like when the design is published with a public link. It's including much more details than the original one, such as animation effects, font information and space dimension.
I also build a mobile layout along with the design that it's really important of the responsive design nowadays. Once the design is finished, it's handed to the client and finalise. Although it cost more time on re-design, this step is essential and help me save more time on development and build the site more efficiently.
